Central Market
The biggest market in the city of Las Palmas also known as Red Market (Mercado Rojo – Mercado central) is a common place of the local people to do the daily shopping. It holds 128 stalls and offers a great variety of local products. It is a bit cheaper than the one in Vegueta and gives you a lot of options to choose from. Great prices for good products.
Open: Monday – Saturday 7.00 – 14.00
Get lost in a variety of fruit and vegetable!
Various types of local fruit can be found here – figs, bananas, melons, mangoes, papayas, avocados and many more.
Be wise to check a lot of different stalls to compare the prices!
On the first floor apart of the stalls of fruit and vegetable you can get fresh fish such as sardines, giltheads, red mullets and many more and of course a great offer of seafood – OCTOPUS is a must buy here (Pulpo in spanish).
In the pharmacy here our group found local honey being sold for a reasonable price!
A great variety of cheeses and olives…
On the second floor there are also stalls with fruit that might look not so perfectly organized, but for sure – they have great fruit for lower prices. We found a nice stall of species and herbs (here you will need a dictionary as everything is in spanish).
In the farther corner there is a small Pasta shop, where the fresh pasta is being made just in front of you!
Ah and, for sure, some canarian sweets…
